Robert E. Lee surrendered the Northern Army of Virginia at Appomattox Courthouse). Very very old, damaged, and, poorly written actual Union Military Documents from the War were dredged up and presented to "Copyists" employed in the Adjutant General's Office. Many many many of those actual Company, Regimental, Brigade, Division, Corps, and, Army "Written Documents" were in absolutely horrible condition (because they had actually been dragged through the mud, blood, guts, trenches, and, waste matter of the War), and, also, a considerable amount of the War documents could not be located, at all. That is why you are having great difficulty locating documents in regard to the combat action(s) of the USCT Troopers who served in the Battle Of Nashville, i.e., the ten (10) 14th USCI Troops and the four (4) 16th USCI Troops.

I remain,

Sincerely yours,

Michael James Morton
(aka, Bill James and USCT Cemetery Mgr. I am sure than many of the men on my list from Williamson County who enlisted in Nashville were impressed to work on Fort Negley and the other fortifications first. Congrats on your research into your 3x great-grandfather. It's hard but such gratifying work!Tina Cahalan Joneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01832317925658128123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633283095482030538.post-367625207107835522016-12-16T17:23:40.008-06:002016-12-16T17:23:40.008-06:00Wow, this is excellent research. We thought he may have volunteered to help the Union troops there and we found a carpenter named James Laws who worked on the fortifications but aren't sure if this was him. The search continues.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08996695506559710753noreply@blogger.com
